After our visit to Scotland we flew to Italy for 3 and a half weeks. We consider ourselves pretty lucky to have had such a wonderful opportunity which we would not normally have had the time or money to do. Since we'd been on a short trip to Italy before and seen a bunch of the big sights in Rome and Florence, we were hoping to take things a little slower this time and experience the Italian way of life, interact with the locals and really soak up the culture (in addition to doing some sightseeing of course!). With this goal in mind we rented apartments where we could go to the local markets, cook our own food etc, and we stayed in each apartment for a week so that we could really get to know the local area. However, we started the trip with a few days of action packed sightseeing in the north to see a couple of popular places we had not been to before (Lake Como and Venice) before spending a week each in Tuscany, Procida (a small island in the Bay of Naples) and finally Sicily.
